Teachable Moments

Take care linking to other sites . . .

Harri Son

shorten links to hide stalking

When you simply click to “share” or “link” to a web site, you’ll be passing along a lot of data about yourself including what they might consider your UID.  If you don’t care if you’re stalked, then never mind.

However, look for a “question mark” (?) in the link.  That mark and everything after it is NOT essential to the link.  It’s additional data the sending site is attaching to the link in order to inform the destination site who you are and where you came from.

Delete that and it still works just fine, but you’re much safer.

And that’s our Teachable Moment for the day!
